MIBG radioactive iodine treatment for hard-to-treat childhood tumors

This trial studies a radioactive medicine called iodine I-131 MIBG to shrink tumors that take up MIBG. It may help people whose neuroblastoma or malignant pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma has come back, progressed, or not responded to standard treatment.

Who can take part

  • You have neuroblastoma (NB) or malignant pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma, confirmed by the study’s testing rules
  • Your scans show tumors that “light up” on an MIBG scan (MIBG-avid) and there is measurable disease
  • Your cancer has grown, come back, or not fully responded to usual treatments
  • You are old enough: NB must be over 1 year; malignant pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma must be 1–21 years
  • You can safely follow radiation safety rules during treatment, and you can come for the study visits
  • If you need the higher-dose option, you must have stem cells saved to bring back after treatment
