Who can take part

  • You are age 45 or older (or 40–44 only if you don’t have other risk factors).
  • Your breast cancer is either ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC), not invasive lobular cancer.
  • Your surgery removed the cancer with clear margins (no cancer at the edge, with a margin more than 2 mm), and lymph nodes were not involved.
  • Your tumor is estrogen-receptor positive or negative (both are allowed in this study).
  • Your cancer is in one place and is not multicentric or multifocal (with limited exceptions).
  • You must not have had chemotherapy before radiation, must not be pregnant, and must not have certain skin/immune conditions that block radiation.
