Who can take part

  • You must be a brain-dead donor (this is for donated organs, not for patients enrolling as recipients).
  • The donor must be at least 18 years old.
  • The donated liver tissue should not look very scarred or “fibrous” during a visual exam (Metavir score F2 or higher means the graft has enough scarring to be included).
  • This is not for living-donor transplants.
  • The donor must not fit the Maastricht III situation (cardiac arrest after loss of heart function).
  • There must be no liver injury/trauma that would stop the surgeon from using the hand-held spectrometer during the operation.
