Study how maternal stress and milk affect preterm baby development

Part of Women’s health & pregnancy clinical trials.

This study looks at whether stress during pregnancy and differences in breast milk are linked to how preterm babies develop, especially their early brain development. If you and your baby meet the criteria, the team will collect information and samples while your baby is still in the hospital.

Who can take part

  • Your baby was born between 28 and 35 weeks of pregnancy (28 0/7 to 34 6/7 weeks).
  • Your baby is medically stable enough for study procedures while in the hospital.
  • You are the baby’s mother and were 18 to 45 years old when your baby was born.
  • Your baby should not have major birth defects or severe brain bleeding (grade IV intraventricular hemorrhage).
  • You should not smoke during pregnancy, and should have no more than 1 alcoholic drink per week (or any higher use).
