Ultra-processed food study in kids with obesity

Who can take part

  • Ages 6 to 18 years, and you identify as Caucasian
  • You fit one of these groups: obesity only, obesity plus metabolic syndrome, or healthy control (no obesity/metabolic syndrome)
  • You do not have other long-term illnesses (like immune problems, autoimmune diseases, chronic infections, or certain gut diseases such as celiac disease)
  • In the 12 weeks before joining, you have not had obesity surgery, and you have not had diarrhea or an acute stomach/gut illness
  • In the last 12 weeks, you did not take antibiotics and did not use pre/pro/synbiotics (gut supplements)
  • No tattoos/scars/moles/special skin lesions on both forearms
