Who can take part

  • You need a kidney removed (radical nephrectomy) for any medical reason.
  • You must be healthy enough to undergo laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery.
  • Your blood pressure and blood sugar must be well-controlled before surgery.
  • You must have a working kidney on the opposite side (not a single kidney or nonfunctioning other kidney).
  • You are not having surgery on other organs at the same time.
