Increasing breast milk production for mothers of premature babies

This study tests whether a special pumping schedule helps mothers of very premature babies (born before 32 weeks) produce more breast milk. It is designed for babies born weighing less than 1500 grams and who are cared for at our hospital.

Who can take part

  • Your baby was born before 32 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Your baby weighed less than 1500 grams (about 3 pounds 5 ounces) at birth.
  • If your baby was born at another hospital, they were transferred to our hospital within the first 48 hours of life.
  • The mother is not critically ill and is at least 18 years old.
  • Your baby does not have a major birth defect, chromosome problem, or serious infection from birth, and doctors are not limiting care due to a life-threatening condition.
