Ketogenic diet to prevent infant seizures in genetic epilepsy
Part of Brain & nervous system clinical trials.
This trial tests whether starting a special high-fat diet (ketogenic diet) early can prevent epileptic spasms in babies with genetic epilepsy. It uses a specific formula called KetoVie and is for infants under 9 months old.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- Your baby's doctor has already decided to try a ketogenic diet for epilepsy treatment.
- Your baby is under 9 months old (including newborns if their doctor agrees).
- Seizures started before 6 months of age.
- Your baby has developmental delays or abnormal brain exam findings (like weak muscle tone, stiffness, or small head size).
- A genetic cause for the epilepsy is suspected or confirmed.
- Your baby cannot have had infantile spasms before, certain conditions like tuberous sclerosis, or be on specific seizure medications (like vigabatrin, steroids, or topiramate).

This study looks at the genetic causes of epilepsy that starts in babies under 1 year old. It aims to learn how a genetic diagnosis might help guide care.
This trial studies how well a ketogenic diet works for children with hard-to-treat epilepsy or certain other diseases. It aims to see if the diet improves quality of life.
This trial tests whether a high-fat, low-carbohydrate (ketogenic) diet can reduce absence seizures in children who are newly diagnosed. It may help some kids by changing how the brain uses energy, but participation requires close diet monitoring and follow-up.
This study looks at how well the ketogenic diet (a high-fat, low-carb diet) works for children with epilepsy that doesn't improve with standard medicines. It uses a special product called KetoCal to help maintain the diet and tracks results in real life.
This study looks at how a high-fat, low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet may change electrical activity in the brain and related body measurements in people with epilepsy. You may be asked to follow the diet and keep records so the researchers can compare changes over time.
This trial tests if a high-fat, low-carb diet (ketogenic diet) can help stop seizures that have not responded to other treatments. It is for patients with a very severe, ongoing seizure emergency called super-refractory status epilepticus.
