- You are 18 years or older
- You are currently hospitalized for a first episode of nephrotic syndrome (high protein in urine and low albumin in blood)
- You do not have anti-PLA2r antibodies in your blood
- Your doctor has decided you need a kidney biopsy for diagnosis
- You do not have known lupus or IgA nephropathy before this episode
