Comparing Blood Tests for Sepsis in Burn ICU Patients

This study is comparing two blood tests (Interleukin 6 and Procalcitonin) to find which is better at detecting sepsis (a serious infection) and predicting the risk of death in burn patients in the ICU. If you have moderate burns and are otherwise healthy, this trial could help improve care for burn victims.

Who can take part

  • You must be admitted to the burn intensive care unit within 24 hours of the burn.
  • The burn should cover 25% to 50% of your total body surface area (ask your doctor if you're unsure).
  • You must have second- or third-degree burns (not just first-degree/sunburn-like).
  • You must be otherwise healthy (no autoimmune diseases, no cancer, and classified as ASA 1 or 2 by your medical team).
