New faster MRI for breast cancer detection

This trial tests a new, faster MRI technique (called ultra-high b-value DWI) to see if it can find breast cancer as well as the standard MRI. It is for women who have a suspicious breast finding (BIRADS 4a), are high risk, have suspicious lymph nodes, or have dense breasts and need an MRI.

Who can take part

  • You are a woman being checked for a suspicious breast lump (rated BIRADS 4a), or you are at high risk (for example, a strong family history of breast cancer), or you have suspicious lymph nodes under your arm found on ultrasound, or you have dense breasts and are planning an MRI.
  • You have had a reliable mammogram and ultrasound before this study.
  • You do not have anything inside your body that would make an MRI unsafe (like a pacemaker, cochlear implant, or metal in your eyes), and you are not claustrophobic.
  • Your kidney function is normal (no known kidney problems that would stop you from getting MRI contrast dye).
  • You have not had any biopsy or treatment for this breast issue before this study.
