Who can take part
- Be 60 years of age or older.
- Have not received a pneumococcal vaccine in the last 3 years.
- Have not had a pneumococcal infection (like pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae) in the last 3 years.
- Be generally healthy, without serious chronic conditions such as severe lung disease, unstable heart disease, or poorly controlled high blood pressure.
- Have a working immune system (not taking immunosuppressive drugs and free of HIV, cancer, or organ transplant).
- If female and able to have children, must have a negative pregnancy test and use birth control for at least 28 days after vaccination.
