Handheld distraction tool for kids during needle procedures

This study tests a small handheld tool that may help distract children and teenagers during painful procedures like getting an IV, a blood draw, a dental needle, or if you have just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and need frequent blood checks and insulin shots. The tool is meant to make the experience less stressful.

Who can take part

  • Your child is between 8 and 15 years old.
  • Your child is having a needle-related procedure at one of these places: Haukeland University Hospital, Helsebanken in Øystese, or TKVestland dental clinic, OR your child has just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at Haukeland.
  • Your child does not have moderate or severe intellectual disabilities.
  • Your child does not have serious vision or hearing problems.
  • Your child understands Norwegian.
  • Your child is not very ill at the time of the procedure and is not expected to need sedation medicine like midazolam.
