  • You have been diagnosed with acute diverticulitis (confirmed by an ultrasound or CT scan)
  • You are willing to sign a consent form to participate
  • You do not have a weakened immune system
  • You do not have a long-term inflammatory disease (like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus)
  • You do not have cancer, heart failure, severe kidney disease, or severe liver disease
  • You have not had major surgery on a large blood vessel (like for an aneurysm)
  • You are not pregnant
  • You are not taking part in other studies that might interfere
