Who can take part

  • Be between 18 and 75 years old
  • Scheduled for planned (not emergency) surgery under general anesthesia
  • Have at least two risk factors for difficult mask ventilation (such as age over 55, having a beard, missing teeth, obesity (BMI 30 or higher), sleep apnea or heavy snoring, neck circumference greater than 43 cm, or a small jaw)
  • Be in good enough health (ASA physical status 1, 2, or 3)
  • Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Not have had prior airway surgery, severe heart or lung disease, facial abnormalities, active respiratory infection, or a history of difficult intubation
