Who can take part

  • You are having surgery on your upper arm, shoulder, or hand.
  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are in good general health (ASA class I, II, or III).
  • You are not allergic to numbing medicines like lidocaine.
  • You do not have nerve damage in the arm being operated on.
  • You do not have a bleeding disorder.
  • You have not taken strong painkillers for more than 3 weeks before surgery.
  • You do not have significant lung disease, and your oxygen level is 95% or higher at rest.
