- You are 18 years old or older
- You are healthy or have mild to moderate health problems (ASA I-III)
- You are scheduled for a first-time hip replacement under spinal anesthesia
- You have no bleeding problems and are not on blood thinners
- You are not allergic to numbing medicines (local anesthetics)
- You have no nerve damage or weakness in your legs that existed before surgery
