  • Want to use birth control pills for contraception or to treat irregular periods
  • Not pregnant now and not planning to become pregnant in the next year
  • Not have serious health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes with complications, heart disease, blood clots, stroke, or liver disease
  • Not take blood pressure, diabetes, or cholesterol medications
  • Not have used other birth control pills or hormone therapy in the past 3 months
