HEART Trial: Recovery Support After Orthopedic Trauma Surgery

This study tests whether coaching support from an expert called an Evellere coach helps patients recover better after major bone or joint surgery from a traumatic injury. The coach works with you and a trusted family member or friend during your hospital stay and after you go home.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • Your hospital stay is expected to be longer than 3 days
  • You had moderate to severe bone or joint injury from trauma that required surgery
  • You are alert and able to communicate (Glasgow Coma Scale score of 13 or higher)
  • You speak English well enough to understand consent forms and complete surveys
  • You can meet with a coach in person at the hospital or by phone within 72 hours after discharge
