This study compares two types of anesthesia (general gas anesthesia vs. a spinal-plus-epidural method) during living-donor kidney transplants to see how they affect certain body signals related to cell health and aging. If you are having a kidney transplant from a living donor and are in good overall health, this trial could help doctors learn which anesthesia may be better for you.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 70 years old.
  • You are scheduled for a kidney transplant from a living donor (not a deceased donor).
  • You will receive either sevoflurane gas anesthesia or combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (not IV sedation only).
  • You have not had an organ transplant before.
  • You do not have a mitochondrial disorder, and you are not on long-term corticosteroid medication.
  • Your transplant surgery must meet strict timing limits (cold storage time under 60 minutes, warm times under specific limits).
