This Phase 3 trial studies giving combined chemotherapy and radiation to treat esophageal cancer that has returned after earlier surgery and/or prior treatments. It may help control the cancer in the area where it comes back, especially when the surgical margins were not fully clear or the cancer is outside the original radiation field.
