  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have a brain or spinal condition that requires planned (not emergency) surgery.
  • You are fully awake and aware when going into surgery.
  • You do not have a history of psychiatric illness or take medications for mental health conditions that would affect the study.
  • You have no serious memory, thinking, or speech problems.
