Treating Congenital Toxoplasmosis With Three Medications

This study tests a combination of three medications (pyrimethamine, sulfadiazine, and leucovorin) to treat toxoplasmosis—a parasitic infection passed from mother to baby during pregnancy. The goal is to see if early treatment prevents serious complications in infected infants.

Who can take part

  • Your child has confirmed toxoplasmosis (a parasitic infection) diagnosed before age 2.5 months, OR you are pregnant with confirmed toxoplasma infection
  • If your child is over 1 year old, they have never been treated for this infection (or had less than 1 month of treatment)
  • Your child has no symptoms, or symptoms were found early during pregnancy through amniocentesis (a test of fluid around the baby)
  • You are willing to give your child three medications by mouth or IV for the study period
