Laser or timolol gel for fast-growing birthmark in infants

Hemangioma

This study compares three approaches—pulsed-dye laser, timolol (a medicated skin solution), or watch-and-wait—to see which works best to slow the growth of a hemangioma birthmark in young babies. It may help find a treatment that shrinks or controls the birthmark as early as possible.

Who can take part

  • Baby is under 3 months old
  • Baby has one or more superficial hemangiomas that are starting to grow quickly
  • The birthmark was absent or barely visible at birth, then became more noticeable within the first month
  • Parent/guardian agrees to join, sign consent, and follow all visits and at-home care
  • Parent/guardian agrees not to use other birthmark medicines (skin or oral) unless the study doctor prescribes them
  • Baby has no serious health problems that would make participation difficult
