Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and can sign consent.
  • You have fluid around the lung (pleural effusion) that is due to cancer or is strongly linked to known cancer, with no other clear cause.
  • Your symptoms (like shortness of breath, cough, or chest discomfort) improved after draining the fluid with a thoracentesis.
  • The fluid returns again after that thoracentesis.
  • Your health situation is not too severe—your expected survival is at least 30 days.
  • You can safely manage the pleural catheter drainage at home and do the required drain care.
