Who can take part

  • You are between 16 and 65 years old
  • You have a severe traumatic brain injury with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 3 to 8
  • A brain CT scan shows a concerning injury score (Marshall CT score over 1), or there was alcohol above 200 mg/dL (if your GCS is 7–8)
  • You can start the first hyperbaric oxygen session within 8 hours of hospital admission (or within 14 hours if you need major surgery)
  • Your injury is traumatic brain injury (not a penetrating head wound)
  • You are not pregnant and do not have safety reasons you cannot receive hyperbaric oxygen
