Who can take part
- You are a woman age 45 or older
- Your breast cancer is early stage (stage I) and small, and it has not spread to distant parts of the body
- Your surgery has clear margins, or your surgeon can re-excise if needed to remove cancer cells at the edges
- Your overall health is good (performance status 0 or 1)
- If you could become pregnant, you must have a negative pregnancy test and use birth control or avoid pregnancy during the study
- You have not had prior radiation to either breast or the chest area
