Nanoparticles to help guide prostate cancer surgery

This Phase 1 study tests nanoparticles (tiny particles) that are meant to help surgeons better find and remove prostate cancer tissue during surgery. You may be offered standard prostate surgery plus imaging with a study tracer to guide the operation.

Who can take part

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are scheduled for standard-of-care prostate surgery: either primary prostate removal with pelvic lymph node dissection, or salvage pelvic lymph node dissection
  • For primary surgery, you have higher-risk prostate cancer (stage T3a or higher, or Gleason score 8–10, or PSA above 20)
  • For salvage surgery, imaging shows a suspicious pelvic lymph node (on CT/MRI or PSMA PET)
  • You can safely have MRI and a PET/scan (no serious scanner limitations like certain implants or severe claustrophobia)
  • You must be able to lie still in the scanner for about 30 minutes and fit within the scanner weight limit

Radioactive drugs before prostate surgery for high-risk prostate cancer

This trial compares two radioactive drugs (177Lu-PSMA-617 and 225Ac-PSMA-617) given before prostate removal surgery in men with high-risk prostate cancer that has not spread far. The goal is to see which drug is better at shrinking the tumor and reducing the chance of cancer coming back.
