Parenting support for preterm toddlers’ brain and self-control

This study tests whether a responsive parenting program helps toddlers born early think, learn, and manage behavior more easily. It also checks whether families can complete toddler brain and behavior assessments (including brain scans).

Who can take part

  • Child was born preterm (early) and is a toddler at the start of the study
  • Mother was at least 18 years old when the child was born
  • Family lives within the study area near Texas Medical Center (about within 1 hour drive)
  • Your child can safely have an MRI (no known MRI safety issues)
  • No major birth brain problems reported, such as severe bleeding in both sides of the brain or hydrocephalus
  • No serious hearing/vision problems (blindness or deafness) and no severe cerebral palsy (gross motor level III or higher)
