Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older and having surgery at the research center
- Your surgery is in one of these areas: orthopedics/spine, total joint, gynecology/oncology, colorectal, open vascular, open urology, general abdominal, acute care, cardiothoracic, or plastic/breast
- You do not have a known infection at the time of surgery
- You can consent to take part in the study
- You are not pregnant
- You are not allergic to the hand-hygiene solution (for example, ethyl alcohol)
