Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and having surgery at the research center
  • Your surgery is in one of these areas: orthopedics/spine, total joint, gynecology/oncology, colorectal, open vascular, open urology, general abdominal, acute care, cardiothoracic, or plastic/breast
  • You do not have a known infection at the time of surgery
  • You can consent to take part in the study
  • You are not pregnant
  • You are not allergic to the hand-hygiene solution (for example, ethyl alcohol)
