Who can take part
- You are over 18 years old
- You are having urgent or planned major surgery (expected to last over 2 hours and require at least one overnight hospital stay)
- Your surgery type is one of these: orthopedic, heart (cardiac), blood vessel (vascular), chest (thoracic), abdomen (visceral), ear/nose/throat (ENT), or plastic surgery
- A handoff between two anesthesia doctors is planned during your surgery (one anesthesia doctor formally hands over to another in the operating room)
- You receive care at the study hospital and your care involves an intensive care anesthesia team and a nurse anesthetist working there
- You are covered by the social security system and agree to take part
