Who can take part
- Be age 18 or older
- Have cirrhosis, or meet liver-surgery/guideline criteria for regular liver-cancer surveillance
- Either (a) have a recent, untreated hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosis, or (b) be in an at-risk group with recent negative scans for HCC
- If you’re in the “no cancer” group, you must have had a negative check for HCC within about 3 months (and there’s a limit on how many people without cirrhosis can join)
- Be able and willing to sign consent; you must not be pregnant
- Avoid certain recent tests/treatments: no IV contrast scans within 24 hours of the blood draw; no chemotherapy or radiation within 5 years; and no HCC treatment (including transplant, ablation, embolization, or cancer medicines) before the blood draw
