Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older
  • You are generally healthy (similar to ASA Class I or II)
  • You have an acute tooth abscess with dead tooth tissue (pulp necrosis) causing pain
  • Your dentist/clinic can see the problem on X-ray (either a standard dental X-ray or cone-beam CT)
  • Your main symptom is persistent tooth pain that is at least moderate (pain score above 4)
  • You can receive the usual dental procedure (cleaning/debridement and incision and drainage) at the end of the study
