- You are at least 18 years old.
- You are breathing on your own (not on a breathing machine).

- You can have a passive leg raise test (your legs can be safely positioned; not a prone position, lower-limb injury, or amputation).

- You are not pregnant, and you do not have heart rhythm problems or cardiogenic fluid in the lungs.
