Who can take part
- Be a child having non-heart surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH)
- Your surgery is expected to need a transfusion more than 25% of the time
- Your planned surgery type must fit one of these: spinal surgery, major abdominal surgery, major hip surgery, major plastic surgery, laparotomy, liver transplant, craniofacial surgery, esophageal atresia surgery, or craniotomy/hemispherectomy
- The operation must not be an emergency (not planned last-minute due to a crisis)
- Your surgery must be scheduled between 8am and 8pm (not off-hours 8pm–8am)
