Personalized IV antibiotics for serious Staph aureus infections

Complicated Staphylococcus Aureus (S. Aureus) Infections (CSAI)

This Phase 2 study tests whether continuous IV antibiotics plus “drug level monitoring” (TDM) works better than the usual treatment for complicated Staph aureus infections. It may help ensure the antibiotic dose stays in an effective range while you’re being treated.

Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older and able to give consent (or have a legal representative if needed)
  • Have a complicated Staph aureus infection, such as Staph in the blood or a deep infection like bone/joint infection or a deep abscess
  • Be starting or already receiving flucoxacillin (FLU) or cefazolin (CZO) through an IV within the last 24 hours
  • Not be on hemodialysis, and have kidney function not extremely low (eGFR 10 or above)
  • Not have MRSA (a resistant type of Staph aureus) or severe liver scarring/cirrhosis (Child B or C)
  • Not be taking other investigational study drugs within the last 30 days and not be likely to stop or leave the hospital within 48 hours
