Who can take part
- You are age 45 or older
- You have an elective major surgery planned under general anesthesia (expected time over 2 hours and hospital stay over 2 days)
- You have at least one higher-risk feature (heart disease history, stroke history, heart failure, diabetes needing treatment, kidney or liver lab issues, or low blood protein/low hemoglobin, etc.)
- Your surgery is not a transplant and is not heart/brain/burn/interventional surgery
- You can be monitored with a bispectral index (BIS) device during anesthesia
