Who can take part
- You’re between 18 and 80 years old, and you can do most daily activities (performance status 0–1).
- Your esophageal cancer is advanced and can’t be removed with surgery, and/or you have recurrent or metastatic disease.
- You haven’t had chemotherapy or other system-wide cancer treatment before (with limited exceptions for treatment that worked for at least 6 months).
- You’re able to start anti–PD-1 immunotherapy with chemotherapy as your first treatment in this study.
- Before enrollment, the cancer spots you’re studying can’t already have had local treatment like radiation or surgery (unless that spot is clearly progressing and is measurable).
- Your body tests show enough blood counts, liver/kidney function, and nutrition, and you have a life expectancy over 12 weeks.
