Breathing or virtual reality to treat shoulder dislocation pain

This trial compares two ways to help control pain after an anterior (front) shoulder dislocation: methoxyflurane breathing and a virtual reality headset, versus usual pain treatment. It may help some people by making pain control easier during treatment.

Who can take part

  • You have a shoulder dislocation that is the front type (anterior dislocation).
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or able to become pregnant and cannot use effective birth control.
  • You can follow and use (or are able to be helped with) the study devices, including the virtual reality headset.
  • You either can’t safely use one of the study devices or have a reason the team can’t use it.
  • You have had relevant shoulder surgery before, or you have other serious injuries with this dislocation.
