Who can take part

  • You need planned (elective) bariatric surgery like gastric bypass, including revision surgery, or a hiatal hernia repair
  • Your surgery must not be an emergency procedure
  • You should not have had another operation within the last 30 days
  • You should not take opioid (narcotic) pain medicines daily before surgery
  • You must be able to give informed consent and understand the study
  • You should not be pregnant and should not have conditions like dementia or severe mental confusion
