- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Be in generally good health with no ongoing immune or inflammatory conditions
- Have healthy gums overall (very little bleeding, no major gum inflammation, shallow gum pockets, no attachment loss)
- Never smoke or use any tobacco products
- No antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medicines in the last 30 days
- No pregnancy planned or during the study, and not breastfeeding
