Preventing stomach blockage in advanced periampullary cancer

This study tests a new procedure (EUS-guided gastroenterostomy) to prevent stomach blockage in people with advanced cancers near the pancreas. It may help you avoid future vomiting and eating problems by placing a small tube between your stomach and intestine using a thin, flexible scope.

Who can take part

  • You have a cancer of the pancreas, bile duct, duodenum, or ampulla that cannot be removed by surgery
  • You have abnormal liver tests that need an ERCP procedure, but you do not have a blocked stomach (you can eat solid foods)
  • You are generally active (able to do light work or be up and about)
  • You do not have severe bleeding problems or very low platelets
  • You have not had surgery that changed your stomach or food pipe, and you do not have widespread cancer in the abdomen or large amounts of fluid in your belly
