Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older and currently in the intensive care unit (ICU).
  • You are on a breathing machine (ventilator) or receiving strong medicines to support blood pressure (catecholamines).
  • Your hospital has both dialysis machines available (IHD and CRRT).
  • You have severe kidney problems causing dangerous high potassium, acid buildup, or fluid in the lungs, OR you are at the most severe stage of kidney injury with very high urea or no urine for more than 3 days.
  • You have health insurance (social security) and agree to participate (or a family member agrees for you).
