Who can take part
- You are 18 or older and currently in the ICU
- You are expected to stay in the ICU for more than 5 days
- You are on a breathing machine or will need one for at least 3 days
- You have a low risk of lung infection at the start (CPIS score below 6)
- You have not recently had food or liquid go into your lungs
- You do not have mouth sores, a hydrogen peroxide allergy, or a lung infection when starting
