Mouth rinse for ICU patients on breathing machines

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older and currently in the ICU
  • You are expected to stay in the ICU for more than 5 days
  • You are on a breathing machine or will need one for at least 3 days
  • You have a low risk of lung infection at the start (CPIS score below 6)
  • You have not recently had food or liquid go into your lungs
  • You do not have mouth sores, a hydrogen peroxide allergy, or a lung infection when starting
