Who can take part
- You must have a new diagnosis of AML that has not been treated yet (except maybe hydroxyurea to lower blood counts).
- You must be 75 or older, or between 60 and 74 with health issues like heart, lung, kidney, or liver problems that make standard chemo too risky.
- Your doctor plans to treat you with a combination of venetoclax and a hypomethylating agent (like azacitidine or decitabine).
- Your white blood cell count must be 25,000 or lower at the start.
- You cannot have had cancer treatment (including chemo, surgery, or radiation) for another cancer in the last 2 years.
- You must not have a type of AML called promyelocytic leukemia (APL) or leukemia that has spread to the brain or spinal cord.
