  • Newly diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)
  • Good enough daily activity level (ECOG score 0-2)
  • Healthy kidneys and liver function
  • Heart function at least 45% on an echocardiogram
  • No prior treatment with anthracycline chemotherapy
