Who can take part
- Your stomach cancer must be at a stage where it has grown into the stomach wall but not to lymph nodes or other organs (called T2–T4a, N0, M0).
- The tumor must be a certain shape and size: either a polyp-like or ulcer-like type smaller than 2 inches, or a more irregular type smaller than 1 inch.
- A team of cancer specialists must have decided you are not healthy enough to have the standard surgery to remove your stomach (gastrectomy).
- You cannot have a 'leather-bottle' type cancer (Borrmann type 4) that causes the whole stomach wall to thicken.
- The tumor cannot be located at the very top of the stomach near the food pipe (the cardia).
