- You are having your first episode of acute pancreatitis.
- You have been diagnosed less than 24 hours ago (or symptoms started less than 72 hours ago).

- You do not have a weakened immune system or take immune-suppressing medicines.
- You are 18 years or older and not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have not had repeated or chronic pancreatitis in the past.
