- You have been in the hospital for at least 2 days
- You are not in a physical medicine, rehabilitation, radiation oncology, or adult psychiatry unit
- You are not in intensive care or a critical care unit
- Your doctor has not said you are at the end of life
- You can communicate well enough to answer a few questions
