Low dose exemestane vs low dose tamoxifen for breast cancer prevention

This trial compares two low-dose medications, exemestane and tamoxifen, to see which is better at preventing breast cancer in postmenopausal women who have a higher risk. You would take one of these pills daily for a few years, and the study will check how well it works and what side effects occur.

Who can take part

  • You have gone through menopause (no periods for 12 months or have had your ovaries removed).
  • You have a high risk of breast cancer due to one of these: recent non-invasive breast cancer (DCIS), a prior high-risk breast lesion (like ADH or LCIS), a risk score of 3% or more over 5 years, carrying a CHEK2 or ATM gene change, or having chest radiation before age 30.
  • You are able to swallow pills and are in generally good health (able to do daily activities).
  • You have had a mammogram and a gynecological exam within the last 6 months, and a bone density scan within the last year.
  • You have not used any antiestrogen medications (like tamoxifen or raloxifene) in the past year and no hormone replacement therapy in the past 3 months.
